Additional packing checklist items for each room of the house

Kitchen

  • At least 48 hours before you move out, you should defrost the fridge.
  • Organize dishes: It's not as hard as you might think to pack dishes for a move. Just make sure to carefully pack them by wrapping bubble wrap around them. And don't pack boxes too full. If you overpack the boxes, it will be harder to move them, and if a box gets broken, you could lose a whole group of plates.
  • Use boxes with sections to store your glasses: It's an easy and safe way to move them.
  • Small things to pack: First, take out any blades or loose parts. Tape the cord around the appliance, tape any extra pieces to it, and be sure to include the instructions.
  • Put away dry items: Wrap seasonings in paper or bubble wrap and pack jars of food or spices on the bottom, so they don't move around during shipping.
  • For things that need to be kept cold, put them in coolers with ice.

Dining Room

  • Put the rug down: Use plastic or a rope to keep things safe.
  • Chairs can be packed by taking the legs off and putting them in moving boxes. Nails or casters should be placed in a labeled plastic bag.
  • Make sure the kitchen table is safe by wrapping it in a blanket and putting it somewhere it won't move.
  • Decorations, like lamps, pictures, artwork, etc., should be packed: By putting paper or bubble wrap around anything made of glass or ceramics.

Living Room and Den

  • Secure electronics: For TVs and computers, use a blanket to cover the screens and unscrew the bottom (if the device has one). Put the screws and the base on the back of the TV with tape.
  • Move things: Put the furniture in the moving truck before packing the boxes. Take the legs off your couch and chairs to make them easier to move into your new home.
  • Keep all electronic parts in order: Tape the power cables, HDMI or audio auxiliary cables, and remote control to each electronic device.
  • Carefully handle art and mirrors: Put blankets or bubble wrap around them.
  • Get your coffee table ready to move: Put furniture sliders under the legs, so you don't scratch the floor when you move it. Put a blanket on top of the table to keep it from getting scratched.
  • Take out the lamps' bulbs and shades: Store in boxes and carefully cushion. If the lamp base is fragile, wrap it in bubble wrap.
  • Pack your books, CDs, and DVDs in separate boxes. Don't make the boxes too heavy, or they'll break.

Bedrooms

  • Casual clothes should be folded and put in moving boxes. For formal dresses, you might want to buy wardrobe boxes that let you keep the clothes on hangers while you move them.
  • Organize jewelry: Put all of your valuables in a bag you can carry with you at all times.
  • Pack mattresses: Put the mattresses in bed bags that will protect them from the weather while you move.
  • Keep all pillows and sheets clean by putting them in trash bags to keep out dust and putting them in moving boxes with labels.
  • Pack up your office at home: Keep essential files in a safe or a locked file box.

Bathroom

  • Put your toiletries in one bag: Make sure you can get to them quickly from your new home. Most likely, you'll start by putting things away in the bathroom.
  • Organize towels: For each bathroom in your new home, pack towels, toilet paper, soap, and other things in one box.
  • Washing room
  • To move the washer and dryer, first, unplug them. Next, unplug everything, including the dryer vent and washer hose, and tape the power cords to each appliance.
  • Don't transport detergents and fabric softeners because they are dangerous.
  • Use laundry baskets or hampers as boxes for moving: Socks, T-shirts, and other things can be put in hampers to make moving easier.

Storage Shed/Garage

  • Cushions for outdoor furniture: Put them in trash bags or boxes.
  • Get rid of dangerous things: Get rid of any paint, fertilizer, or weed killer that you have because these things are dangerous to move.
  • Put tools in a tool chest to pack them. Tools like a saw or hammer should be wrapped in towels and put in boxes.
  • Drain the gas from things that need it, like your grill or lawn mower, before you move them. If the grill has a gas tank, take it off and turn it around before moving.
  • Pool toys will fit better in boxes if you deflate them first.
